For the June meeting Tami Jo will be here to give her long awaited talk on tattoos. She’ll be talking about where this all started and some cool trends that are going on today. She’ll have some pics of stuff she’s done and things she likes. The title of the talk is “I will cut you”. My new favorite part of this talk is the live demonstration. Oh yea, this is how we roll out here. Josh will be getting some updates. Should be really cool.

We’ll also be talking starting to firm up the plans for the CTF event. Good discussion on this last month and here’s hoping we catch Derek this time?

Hey, what happened to April? Sorry folks. We had a perfect storm of life happening for many of us and just couldn’t get it together. Things are back to normalish.

For the May meeting we’ll be having a discussion around current and emerging threats. This is something we seldom do to any useful degree and there are some really interesting things happening right now. (I’m easily amused) Malware, web site\app foolishness and the evils of social networking are good places to start.

In addition I’d like to start the discussion around the capture the flag event we’ve talked about and see how much interest there is and what the rules would look like.

Hope everyone had a great holiday, back into it! We’ve got some great sessions already planned for 2008. I’m really excited about some of the things we have planned.

The February meeting will be held on Wednesday 2/6 at 6:30 PM.

The first presentation of 2008 is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while. (Since I want a tattoo badly.) TJ will be presenting a session on the history and technology of tattooing. She’ll go over where this all started and some cool trends that are going on today. She’ll have some pics of stuff she’s done and things she likes. My favorite part of all is the title. Looking forward:

In March we’ll be welcoming back Steve Jaqua who will be hosting a gaming night. He’s unveiling the production version of Blasphemy and will be giving away a copy of it. (I still don’t know how he’ll determine the winner but be sure it won’t be me.) So the meeting will be another gaming night. Standard rules apply: Kugler will wander around from game to game and we’ll all target Kevin and lose.

In April our own JRC will present on WII mods. It’ll include some firmware hacking info as well as perhaps a demo of the WII in action. I’m totally killer on boxing.

We’ve begun planning for a Capture the Flag contest for the summer. Think you’re all that? We’ll see. Planning is at an early stage, if you’re interested in being part of the planning please email me offlist. Otherwise stay tuned for more info. This is going to be good.

This month’s talk will be given by Jeff Rinvelt. Jeff’s worked at quite a few startups and has an interesting perspective on the process. He did a talk last year about dealing with Venture Capital groups. In this talk he’ll be talking about HOW to start a company and When not to:) Over the years I’ve taken some ideas that I thought were great to Jeff only to have him destroy them piece by piece. Most of the time I’ve listened to him. Anyway, this topic has come up quite a bit recently so I thought it would be a great session.

We will likely be taking a break for the December meeting since everyone with a key to the space will be leaving for Kalamazoo 2 days later:) We can talk about it at the meeting.

Ok, I realize I’ve been saying for 3 months that Chris is going to present this really cool paper on Web technologies and we haven’t come through with it. Some of you may even be skeptical about Chris’s existence. But this month…Chris will be doing his preso. Stop it with the eye rolls, really and for truly he’ll be doing it. Chris has developed a sweet tooth for some of the developing web tech
and will be talking about it. Should be a good discussion, I know we
have some folks with some good knowledge about web tech and Chris is
generally obsessive about things which ends up working out good for
us.

For October we’ll have a guest that will be talking about the history
and technology around tattooing. She’s a Michigan based artist. I’ll
have more info on this coming up.

This month’s discussion will be lead by the Vault of Midnight crew. They’re going to give us an overview of some new and cool board games and give us a chance to play some of them. Should be a really
interesting discussion and will give us all a chance to meet some of the folks from the Vault.
(Not to mention a chance to try and beat Kevin at a game.)

We will likely cancel or move the July meeting since it falls on 7/4.
