This month Troy Lindner will be moderating a discussion around
providing technical services to schools. Troy does this
professionally dealing with things like online access to grades,
curriculum,etc… . This is a topic that some of us have been
focused on over the last couple years so the conversation should be
good. Questions I’ll have include topics around privacy and security
when dealing with data surrounding kids and the associated policies.

Hey everyone, apparently we actually need to do a meeting once in a while!
Sorry for the long absence, things have been pretty wild for me and many people in the chapter. We’re going to try to get some energy back into it!

Davezilla will be presenting a really creepy talk entitled, “Social Media Tracking”. This is something I’ve spoken with ‘Zilla about extensively but haven’t seen this presentation. He’ll be including info about tools and we’ll have a demo too.

Hey, what happened to April? Sorry folks. We had a perfect storm of life happening for many of us and just couldn’t get it together. Things are back to normalish.
For the May meeting we’ll be having a discussion around current and emerging threats. This is something we seldom do to any useful degree and there are some really interesting things happening right now. (I’m easily amused) Malware, web site\app foolishness and the evils of social networking are good places to start.
In addition I’d like to start the discussion around the capture the flag event we’ve talked about and see how much interest there is and what the rules would look like.
And I swear this is true…we will be by god having the tattoo presentation! For the June meeting Tami Jo will be here to talk about where this all started and some cool trends that are going on today. She’ll have some pics of stuff she’s done and things she likes. My favorite part of all is the title. I was talking to her about this a while back and thought the title was, “I can cut you” she corrected me, “It’s I WILL cut you, not I can cut you…”. Sorry sista, keeping it real. Anyway, come to this one, it will be fun.

This month’s talk will be given by Jeff Rinvelt. Jeff’s worked at quite a few startups and has an interesting perspective on the process. He did a talk last year about dealing with Venture Capital groups. In this talk he’ll be talking about HOW to start a company and When not to:) Over the years I’ve taken some ideas that I thought were great to Jeff only to have him destroy them piece by piece. Most of the time I’ve listened to him. Anyway, this topic has come up quite a bit recently so I thought it would be a great session.
We will likely be taking a break for the December meeting since everyone with a key to the space will be leaving for Kalamazoo 2 days later:) We can talk about it at the meeting.

Ok, I realize I’ve been saying for 3 months that Chris is going to present this really cool paper on Web technologies and we haven’t come through with it. Some of you may even be skeptical about Chris’s existence. But this month…Chris will be doing his preso. Stop it with the eye rolls, really and for truly he’ll be doing it. Hey all, hope everyone had a great July! Back into it.
The August meeting will be held on 8/1 at 6:30 PM. We’re likely to
missing some folks who’ll be at or traveling to the conference in
Vegas.
Chris Myers is going to lead a discussion around web technologies.
Chris has developed a sweet tooth for some of the developing web tech
and will be talking about it. Should be a good discussion, I know we
have some folks with some good knowledge about web tech and Chris is
generally obsessive about things which ends up working out good for
us. :)
We’ll also be working out a method for music sharing on site. Hasn’t
worked out that well and I’d like to talk about a way to do this.
Hardware, we’ve got.

This month’s discussion will be lead by the Vault of Midnight crew. They’re going to give us an overview of some new and cool board games and give us a chance to play some of them. Should be a really
interesting discussion and will give us all a chance to meet some of the folks from the Vault.
(Not to mention a chance to try and beat Kevin at a game.)
We will likely cancel or move the July meeting since it falls on 7/4.

The first meeting of 2007 is on Wednesday 2/7 at 6:30 PM. I don’t have a presenter yet so I may be opening a discussion on a couple topics I’m working on.
We’ll also be giving a fond peace out to David Helder who’s leaving us for sunny CA. (He does have a guest room I hear:)
