Hey all,
over the years we’ve discussed the identity and purpose of DC734 and
often discussed renaming the our meetings to better reflect our
activities. The DC name has caused a lot of confusion and concerns
that it would be more of a rave and less of a meeting of minds.
So, in that spirit, at the last meeting we decided to join with a new
Ann Arbor based security group to provide some clarity to what we’re
doing. Following what folks around the country the new group is
following the citi sec model. Details can be found at www.arbsec.org.
We’re going to give the chapter list time to migrate to the arbsec
communication and you will be seeing an email from Jon Oberheide soon
on the details. First Arbsec meeting is next Wednesday March 4th, at
Bar Louie.
There’s some exciting new momentum in the Ann Arbor technical
community and I hope to see you at the Arbsec meetups or any one of
the really cool things going on.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to DC734 over the years, please
show up and do the same for Arbsec!

Hey 734, happy new year and all that.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday 1/7 at 6:30 PM.
Sorry we missed December. Everyone was really busy and it just never
came together. We’re going to try to have better content and planning
for 2009.
To that end, the first meeting of 2009 will be a planning meeting to
discuss what we’ll be doing. February’s meeting will probably be a
session on building wireless antennas. (ae?)
One of the things I’d really like to do this year is more hands on
sessions regardless of the topic.
Anyway, hope to see you there, it’s been a while.

This month Troy Lindner will be moderating a discussion around
providing technical services to schools. Troy does this
professionally dealing with things like online access to grades,
curriculum,etc… . This is a topic that some of us have been
focused on over the last couple years so the conversation should be
good. Questions I’ll have include topics around privacy and security
when dealing with data surrounding kids and the associated policies.

Sorry for the long absence, things have been pretty wild for me and many people in the chapter. We’re going to try to get some energy back into it!
The October meeting will be held on Wednesday 10/1 at 6:30 PM.
Davezilla will be presenting a really creepy talk entitled, “Social Media Tracking”. This is something I’ve spoken with ‘Zilla about extensively but haven’t seen this presentation. He’ll be including info about tools and we’ll have a demo too.
I started reaching out to folks for presentations and we’ve got some on the burner again so please join us as we talk about the next year for 734.

Hey everyone, just a reminder that the July meeting is canceled so we
can all prep for the 4th on Friday.
I know allot of people are already out of town but to those around,

For the June meeting Tami Jo will be here to give her long awaited talk on tattoos. She’ll be talking about where this all started and some cool trends that are going on today. She’ll have some pics of stuff she’s done and things she likes. The title of the talk is “I will cut you”. My new favorite part of this talk is the live demonstration. Oh yea, this is how we roll out here. Josh will be getting some updates. Should be really cool.
Come out for this one, it’s going to be fun.
We’ll also be talking starting to firm up the plans for the CTF event. Good discussion on this last month and here’s hoping we catch Derek this time?

Hey, what happened to April? Sorry folks. We had a perfect storm of life happening for many of us and just couldn’t get it together. Things are back to normalish.
For the May meeting we’ll be having a discussion around current and emerging threats. This is something we seldom do to any useful degree and there are some really interesting things happening right now. (I’m easily amused) Malware, web site\app foolishness and the evils of social networking are good places to start.
In addition I’d like to start the discussion around the capture the flag event we’ve talked about and see how much interest there is and what the rules would look like.

What up 734!
Hope everyone had a great holiday, back into it! We’ve got some great sessions already planned for 2008. I’m really excited about some of the things we have planned.
The February meeting will be held on Wednesday 2/6 at 6:30 PM.
The first presentation of 2008 is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while. (Since I want a tattoo badly.) TJ will be presenting a session on the history and technology of tattooing. She’ll go over where this all started and some cool trends that are going on today. She’ll have some pics of stuff she’s done and things she likes. My favorite part of all is the title. I was talking to her about this a while back and thought the title was, “I can cut you” she recently corrected me saying, “It’s I WILL cut you, not I can cut you…”. Sorry sista, keeping it real. Looking forward:
In March we’ll be welcoming back Steve Jaqua who will be hosting a gaming night. He’s unveiling the production version of Blasphemy and will be giving away a copy of it. (I still don’t know how he’ll determine the winner but be sure it won’t be me.) So the meeting will be another gaming night. Standard rules apply: Kugler will wander around from game to game and we’ll all target Kevin and lose.
In April our own JRC will present on WII mods. It’ll include some firmware hacking info as well as perhaps a demo of the WII in action. I’m totally killer on boxing.
We’ve begun planning for a Capture the Flag contest for the summer. Think you’re all that? We’ll see. Planning is at an early stage, if you’re interested in being part of the planning please email me offlist. Otherwise stay tuned for more info. This is going to be good.

This month’s talk will be given by Jeff Rinvelt. Jeff’s worked at quite a few startups and has an interesting perspective on the process. He did a talk last year about dealing with Venture Capital groups. In this talk he’ll be talking about HOW to start a company and When not to:) Over the years I’ve taken some ideas that I thought were great to Jeff only to have him destroy them piece by piece. Most of the time I’ve listened to him. Anyway, this topic has come up quite a bit recently so I thought it would be a great session.
We will likely be taking a break for the December meeting since everyone with a key to the space will be leaving for Kalamazoo 2 days later:) We can talk about it at the meeting.

Ok, I realize I’ve been saying for 3 months that Chris is going to present this really cool paper on Web technologies and we haven’t come through with it.
